Is Your Home a Toxic Brew?
We seem to be a society obsessed with keeping our homes clean. We want our bathrooms, and our kitchens, hospital grade disinfected.

Cleaning products promise better results with less scrubbing. But could it be that our clean-freak streak is actually harming our kids?
obsessed with keeping our homes clean
The fact is that, an average home generates 25 pounds of toxic, hazardous waste each year, most of which comes from household cleaning products.

More than 9 out of every 10 suspected poison exposures occur at home with household products. EPA studies indicates that elevated concentration of household chemicals persist in the air. Some are suspected of causing or are known to cause cancer in humans.
Dr. Robert Needleman, a pediatrician and a professor at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, found out that:
Some 20 million Americans have asthma
An average of 1 in every 13 children has asthma
Common household cleaners and appliances give off fumes, which can potentially increase the risk of children developing asthma

Here's an eye opening video titled Toxic Brew.
It reveals how our supposed 'cleaning' products can lead to health problems that can risk the lives of our whole family.

7 Ways To 'Detox' Your Home

Chemicals in commercial products are not rigidly regulated in the United States, which is why consumers need to be smart about what they bring into their homes.
Here are 7 ways to keep toxic chemicals out of your home:

1. Switch to safe toxin free cleaners.

2. Be conscious of toxins in carpeting, especially in products made of synthetic materials.

3. Have your home checked for carbon monoxide leaks.

4. Seal or replace particleboard walls, floors or cabinets.

5. Open your windows

6. Avoid excess moisture.

7. Go zero-waste, or at least plastic-free.

What exactly is Green Cleaning?
Some people swear by the three masters of green cleaning: baking soda, vinegar, and lemons. While these do work, most of us are going to need to use products that have a bit more muscle behind them for those tougher jobs.

Green can be mean too!!
The good news is that green products have advanced a great deal in the last few years.

They clean better than ever and they're not harmful to your health or the environment.

Happy Earth Day!

How is Shaklee different from commercial cleaners?

The difference is safety. When you read the labels on most cleaners, you will find that nearly all of them contain ingredients that are harmful to your lungs or brain. Be safe with Shaklee.

All the best,

Gloria
